Router not passing internet traffic
 

I have been utterly baffled by this problem for the past month or so, and I've exhausted all the readily available resources. So, here I am.

I have an Averatec 3270 with a Ralink RT2500-based Wireless card. I also have a Linksys WRT54G router that is connected to a Direcway DW6000 satellite internet connection. There are several pcs connected to it in a wired configuration, with operating systems ranging from Windows 2000, to Windows ME, to Windows XP Home. We have a few laptops running wireless connections, and aside from the occasional Direcway-related error, they work just fine.

I've been working very hard on getting Slax optimized for my machine, and have plans for making an Averatec-optimized version of Slax. It works like a champ, and with the release of 5.0.7b I have hopes of getting the rt2x00 driver to work with it. When Tomas releases the Kernel Source, I'll be golden. Until then, I'm running the Windows driver with ndiswrapper. I have my network completely set up, with the correct WEP key, SSID, and routeing set up. I can ping the router, other machines on my subnet, and my own IP. I can also browse the Windows network shares, so I know that the network card is working just fine.

However, I cannot access anything on the other side of the WAN port of my router. I can't ping the DW6000 on either the local IP or my dedicated ISP-assigned IP. I can't ping google. I can't ping Google's IP. I can't access any webpages. I cannot telnet through to my DW6000. When I used traceroute to see if I could diagnose something with that, the only gateway listed was my router.

The really strange thing is that this all started under Windows XP. The networking does the exact same thing, so it's not just a Linux-specific thing.

I set up a proxy server on one of the other computers on my network, and I'm posting this from my Konqueror on my laptop through that proxy server. I've exhausted every trick that Google and Google Linux can give me. I only got ndiswrapper set up today, and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't Windows-specific before I ran running for help. Well, I'm stuck. Does anyone have any answers?

I had a Linksys router fail in this way. It seemed to work correctly; I could connect to it and configure it. It showed WAN connectivity. It was working fine, and then one day just stopped passing data to/from the WAN port.

You can try a hard reset (press and hold the reset button on the router until all the LEDs come on), and reconfigure. It didn't work for me, and I ended up getting a ZyXEL P330W router (which also happens to run Linux) on sale for $5 and junking the Linksys.

Not the answer I wanted to hear, but it's at least an answer. Thanks, macemoneta.

I'll have to see about the hard reset. Our network administrator is pretty unfriendly about doing anything to it.

The sad thing is, this router replaced one that got hit by lightning a few months back. Maybe Linksys will warranty it...

I'm still listening, if anybody has more input.

EDIT: I complained loudly and long enough, and the admin changed some setting on the router, giving me back my internet. I think he may have gotten upset with me and blocked out my MAC address (we're brothers, and he's a bit petty at times.)
