Unhappy router-gateway-AP?

I just bought a ADSL gateway and wireless router.
Now the question is have I bought the wrong thing?

I want, downstairs, ADSL incoming, occasionall plug in laptop,
upstairs, wireless acces, connecting
desktop via ethernet cable.

So i have an ADSL modem/router downstairs, and a wireless router upstairs.

now can my wireless router act as an access point to my upstairs
PC or have i bought completely the wrong box?

Do i need a bridge or an access point or whatever?

you could have buy an accesspoint (should have been cheaper), but anyway a wifi router is an access point & a classcial router.

the only "problem" is that maybe your router won't be able to act as a bridge (so as to have same network settings on your wireless lan and on your wired lan). If so you'll need to configure things like this :

upstair's pcs : gateway the wifi router
wifi router : gateway the adsl router
adsl router : gateway internet, static route to upstair's network via the wifi router.
