RH9 / DHCP Doesn't Work / Static Does
Greetings:
Being a relative newbie to Linux, but a grizzled veteran of other platforms and networking in particular, I needed to ask this question.
I have been working on getting a new install of RH9, still fresh from a warm box.
I have a new ABIT NF7-S Nforce2 Mobo, using an AMD 2500+. Has on-board Nvidia ethernet port. In my frustrations, I have also installed a 3Com 3C980B-TX card as well.
Network configurator sees both cards and allows me to configure them. I want to use DHCP from my home router, as all my Windoze machines also currently use DHCP. Also want the router to pass DNS server addresses to my machines, as my ISP changes those periodically.
Here is my story: When I go to activate the cards, eth0 or eth1, it waits a long time before coming back and telling me that it was unable to activate them.
I attached a NG sniffer and I am seeing the DHCP request go out, and then being answered by the router. But the Linux machine never appears to accept the address.
I then statically addressed each adapter, and they work flawlessly.
I have the newest NVidia drivers installed, as I also do for the 3Com card.
The cards work, with static addresses, but not using DHCP.
I started up DHclient and watched it. I saw the request go out, but never saw the reply come back in.
Help....
What do I try now ?
TIA
