Unhappy Redhat 8 : install of netgear mr314 wireless with alcatel speedtouch home ethernet

Hi,
I try to install a netgear wireless router MR314 with my adsl connection
(Alcatel Speedtouch ethernet modem, NB I connect directly to it using the
following command ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.1 and then pptp 10.0.0.138 , adress of
the adsl modem.

The MR314 got a static adress as 192.168.0.1; i was only able to access it when
configuring my eth0 to the ip 192.168.0.3 or 2; but then I am not able to get
access to adsl modem using the adress 10.0.0.138.
So I can not get access to internet with this router, and I am just do my old
proc. as setting eth0 to 10.0.0.1 and then pptp 10.0.0138

Looking on the internet, no real answers (note also that netgear does not
support linux! although the shop told me they do!)
Except, some things from
http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_...nux/Tools.html
regarding pcmcia, bu I am really unsure that this apply to me.

Note that Redhat os did not recognize my router as a new hardware; so I am
completely clueless now.

Is there any paper, installation proc for getting this working ?

Best regards, and I hope you can help,
Luc

that's a little vague.

what is plugged into what?

what is your goal to do?

is there a new interface in redhat or does the wireless router plug into the ethernet that connects eth0 and the DSL?

you mentioned pcmcia, is this on a laptop?

thanks for your post; some clarification
i try to connect from eth0 to the wireless router (netgear MR314) to the alcatel adsl router (speedtouch home)

My router got the following adress : 192.168.0.1
My Adsl modem : 10.0.0.138

I assigned to eth0 : 192.168.0.2 (gateway to 192.168.0.1)
I am then able to connect to the netgear config on http://192.168.0.1

But then when I issue the command PPTP 10.0.0.138 to connect to internet
, or even ping this adress, I can not access it .

Forget the pcmcia, I was getting lost , lol

Talking It works now !!

It works now, here are the stuff I done :
etho :
- get ip from dhcp (the one from my router)
- get automatically dns infos from isp

router :
- client ip set to 10.0.0.10 (the one from the router)
- server ip set to 10.0.0.138 (the one from the modem, no need
to change it)

My original config for the modem was ok, I did not have to change anything as I tried before (setting to an ip like 192.168.0.x)

salut de Nice, luc
