Recommendations for 802.11g adapters

Hi,

I'm starting to move some of my computers over to wireless networking to finally get rid of some of these cables strewn all over my house. I'm new to wireless though so I don't really know the state of compatibility with linux.

I've got an 802.11g router on the way, I haven't actually purchased any adapters yet. PCI cards will be fine for most of the computers, but there is one that has no free PCI slots, for that one I will need a USB adapter. So, what is a good, inexpensive, USB adapter and PCI adapter?

I do have several years of linux experience including building kernels so I'm not afraid to get my hands a bit dirty.

I had no prolems whatsoever using intel (using ipw2200 module) and RaLink (using rt2500 module). The Ralinks are PCI, the Intel came with my laptop.

I have a SMC USB (kind of a pen) that came with the router but never tested it.

"Nobody can recommend a USB adapter?"

As far as I'm concerned, USB is not recommended. OTOH, there is a search function, so you could search for USB devices that people have gotten to work.

I've had nothing but good experience with my Hawking HWU54G. It uses the zd1211 chipset or which the driver is included with kernels >=2.6.18. I got mine two years ago for $10 after a mail-in rebate. Only $40 before.

Note: With ANY USB wlan adapter, in order to get G speeds your USB ports must be 2.0.
