Re: Squid Error: No Running Copy

Hi guys,

I have installed Fedora Core 2 & squid with it. However squid does not start-up, I have tried all the ways, even tried the mailing posts but they suggest a .pid file missing, which i searched for using the 'ps' command yet there is no trace of it in the system, i even did a file search, but nothing! I have even tried re-installing the OS on the same machine as well as on another machine but still the problem persists! I have ran the 'test cd' & all the cds' are perfect! It keeps displaying 'Squid Error: No Running Copy'. Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks.

start the service and then see what outputs are placed in dmesg or /var/log/messages more than likely the daemon is not correctly configured. you should also try starting squid in a non-daemon mode to see exactly what it's doing. you can forget all the pid file stuff.

Please specify "visible host name" in squid.conf. Then restart the squid service.

well, i did manage to start it up! (faulty n/w cable)! - but now i cant get other machines like WinME access the proxy - I have specified the server ip & port in the WinME machine but it keeps searching for the host! - and I have given access to 'all' in my squid.conf file! - I even tried specifying the ip of the WinME machine in the squid.conf but no luck! - however I can ping the server & the server can ping the WinME machine! - any ideas?

Also on the server itself (Fedora Core 2) I am using the messenger client - I can connect to MSN but not to Yahoo?

download this version of squid rpm

I was having the same problem in my red hat Linux OS with all other versions of squid but after I installed this version my squid is working very fine.

or just mention the hostname of your machine in the hostname section of squid.conf file

visible_ hostname abcd

and restart the service
