Problems Browsing Secure Sites (HTTPS)

For several weeks now I have been experiencing a strange situation with my internet connection. There are several sites (specially HTTPS sites) which I can't access or that are extremely slow. Or maybe I can access the site but when I try to do a specific action it goes in a timeout state. For example, I can browse amazon.com but when I try to add a new item to my cart I receive no response. Similar situation with my online banking... Also I can browse the eBay site but when I try to login with my userid/password I don't get any response. One of the most strange things is that one day it works and suddenly it stops working.

I has been using Kubuntu 8.04 for several months and change to OpenSuse 11.0 thinking it was a problem with the distribution. I installed OpenSuse 11.0 a few days ago and it worked for two days, suddenly it started behaving as in Kubuntu. I try disabling IPV6 on the network card configuration with no luck. Also I change my network connection from DHCP to a static connection... no luck either.

Last night when I was having the problem I took off the network cable from my desktop and plug it in my Vista laptop and it worked with no problems. Then put it back to my desktop and back to the same situation. I'm running behind an ADSL connection, it's been working fine for more than three years.

I'm a little frustrated... any help and/or advice will be really appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is that your installation might have bad certificates (thanks to a defective OpenSSL in all Debian distributions for the past 2 years). Read up on the OpenSSL problem on the Ubuntu website; see if your 8.04 is affected, and if it is you need to download the fixed version plus some other tools, and regenerate your keys and certificates.

Thanks for your post, I will give it a look once I get home. You mention that there is an OpenSSL problem on Debian distributions which may be the cause on Kubuntu, but OpenSuse isn't Debian... anyway, I will research on this cause is one element I haven't consider.
