Hi, I'm new to linux, i've installed Mandriva 2007 Free from the Linux Pro Mag. I've since reinstalled several times. Here's the problem. I'm unable to use the wireless card. Although It is being detected in the wireless config as Atheros Communications Inc. |Ar5213 802.11a/b/g Wireless Adapter, but it will not configure. When I click on next I get a message about packages (madwifi-kernel) required. and not avail. missing ath_pci. I downloaded, madiwifi-0.9.2. went to do 'make' get error./bin/sh: line 0: cd: /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build: No such file or directory
Makefile.inc:89: *** /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build is missing, please set KERNELPATH. Stop.
Then on Madwifi's page it states to go as root and do
I believe whats called symlink I follow that get the correct message they state. then. Try to set kernel path. Then still get same error message. Which I've reinstalled mandriva several times. Any direction to help me out would be very much appreciated.. However I have many other problems as well. Which I will direct in the correct forum
Thanks in advance
Mr. Smith
Oh btw to add on I forgot its a Netgear wg311t , and according to madwifi and atheros it is compatible
So I too had the same problem I ended up doing a ndiswrapper on it. It works now but is very annoying. Here's the URL for the forum. But personally I've heard that linux has real problems with that card . I would just go for the wrapper. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=379491
believe it or not ,I was able to figure it out, and I was pretty happy. Turns out I just needed to install the Kernel something that is not installed on the intial setup. After doing that It was a piece of cake.
Sure , I went into configure your computer and under software management, look at installable software and install software packages, then went to system inside system you go to kernel and hardware , scroll to kernel-2.6.17.5mdv-1-1mdv2007.0, just click on it to make an open box, and apply, you'll probably get an error after its done, i ignored it then i rebooted, ran the make and make install, like the directions say as root, then it went on through , I then right clicked on my network icon then to configure network and I was able to configure the Wireless side.
We'll I did it again, I re-installed Mandriva becuase I thought I broke it, becuase it now locks during the boot process at the part where you have press esc for verbose mode. Well, I noticed this time the kernel was already installed for installing madwifi however i'm getting the same error, of /lib/modules/kernel-2.6.17-5mdv/build not being there, set kernelpath, I've tried doing that, and even going to the ndiswrapper prog, i get the same error. Now I understand getting that set kernel error means the kernenl isn't found for the make build file, any help would be appreciated..
also I've done the link as in the instructions state but i noticed in the /usr/src directory I was missing the linux path so i did md linux , however still its not working.
