problem with MA401 wireless card

I have MA401 wireless card on my laptop. The card is configured properly and I am able to connect to internet. But when I use 'redhat-config-network' utility I get following error message. (eth1 corresponds to my wireless card)

deepika@localhost deepika]$ redhat-config-network

Things were fine until I had changed hostname. Later I changed the hostname to its original value though I don't think that has anything to do with above problem.

Can anyone tell me what does above error mean? And what would have made this occur? How can I overcome this?

Thanks & regards,
Deepika

The tools "iwconfig" and "iwpriv" and such that redhat-config-network is sending commands to were compiled with a component of the kernel in mind called "wireless extensions" The tools are newer then the RedHat kernel that you have... this is no big deal, very few distros have ever matched their version of tools and extensions and I've never really seen anything broken...

However, you are on 12! That's just an old distro release in general, RH 7.2? 7.3?

Thanks finegan.

I m using RH8.0. Is its kernel also old for these tools?

Well, yeah, wireless extensions is ust part of the kernel... like ext2 support or the PDC20265 ATA card driver or many other things. Now is it too old? Nah, not at all, your card is pretty old too (but good, don't buy into the 802.11g/a hype just yet, especially with all of the cheap chipsets getting punched out lately). You have a prism 2.5 chipset in that card, well supported, more or less, by the time your kernel came around.
