Partitioned hard drive, cannot connect to wireless interent
 

I'm very new to Linux and somewhat technologically illiterate. So I had Windows 7 and had the hard drive partitioned and Linux installed. Now I can't connect to wireless when I am in Linux, but I can if I restart it and go into Windows. What it does is ask for my Linux password (the same one I use to log in) and then ask for the wireless password. Then it just keeps asking for those over and over again and never manages to connect. I have connected to other wireless networks, but can't seem to connect to my home one. Anyone smarter than me know what's going on?

Seems to be more than one issue.

You said that when you boot to Windows 7, it asks you for a wireless password or does it ask you for some linux password?

To get wireless working on linux, you should tell us what distro you installed. Maybe the type of nic if you know it or how it connects like usb or built in.

Sorry, Mint Debian, and I don't know the nic. When I log into Windows it connects automatically, as I put in and saved the wifi password a long time ago. When I'm in linux, if I plug an ethernet cable into the router then I can get internet, just won't connect wirelessly. I don't know if that is useful information at all though...

OK, that did help. Since you say it was the debian mint we may have to modify some of this data. May have to look also at debian how-to's.

Still need to know usb wireless nic or a built in nic.

Ubuntu has plenty of doc's and support so use search terms for ubuntu also instead of mint.

There is two parts to wireless. One is the nic. You need a driver if not built into mint. You can either add in a linux driver or try a windows with ndiswrapper.

Second part is using wireless tools to connect.
