Other computers don't see Linux computer on a WiFi network

I've got a Raspberry Pi on a wifi network, running Raspbian. I can ssh into the RasPi from the Internet, and I can see other computers on the wifi from the RasPi. It even has an OpenVPN server running and I can connect to it from the outside and see its Samba shares.

However, other (Windows) computers on the same network can't see the RasPi: it doesn't show up as a CIFS host and they can't even ping it.

The firewall on the RasPi is wide open:
Quote:
root@VPNPI:/home/tatome# iptables -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
This is my network configuration:
Quote:
root@VPNPI:/home/tatome# ifconfig

All other computers on the network use DHCP, but the RasPi has a static IP to make port forwarding through the wifi router and the configuration of the OpenVPN server easier.

I could almost think the router forgets about the RasPi for some reason and therefore doesn't deliver packages from other computers, except I can ssh into the RasPi through the router, so it must know the RasPi is there.

Any clues?

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

You can ssh over the internet but can you ssh or connect to the VPN over the LAN? I assume you forward the port in the router to the wlan0 address of the Pi. Just to make sure you have not configured the Pi to use a DMZ or guest WiFi network?

Are the windows PCs configured as a homegroup? samba does not work with homegroups so you need to configure your windows computers to share with old fashion XP. Make sure the workgroup name is the same on all the computers.

Thanks.

I'll check if I can ssh or VPN into the RasPi from inside the network when I have the chance. Unfortunately, that's only once a week.

However, not being able to ping it, it's not really likely I can ssh into it, right?

Similarly, I'll double check about the workgroup and DMZ. You never know what Windows or your wifi router might do by default. I'm pretty sure I didn't set up anything of that sort, though.
