openSUSE 10.2 and Intel ipw2200 wireless not working

Hi,

I've been messing about with Linux on my Compaq Presario V4335EA laptop using Kubuntu this past week. Installed and ran without a problem, and after entering IP/Subnet/Gateway/DNS details, it connected to my router and ran great.

I wanted to try openSUSE 10.2 as I'm thinking about getting the paid for version and wanted to try it out first. Again, the installation went without any problems until it came to setting up my wireless card. I entered the same IP (192.168.2.14) subnet (255.255.255.0) gateway and DNS (both 192.168.2.1), but it just refuses to work. I'm using 128bit WEP (was using WPA-PSK before, but my Xbox 360 just wouldn't work with it, so changed my entire wireless network over to WEP).

All I can see in Google is that it should work. Well, ok. Great, but why isn't mine? No problems with Windows XP or Kubuntu. Is there something different in the openSUSE version?

Hope someone can help.

Cheers,

Pete.

Hello Badders,

Are you sure the correct driver is installed properly. can you ping the router? Recheck the wep key. some router needs reboot to make the wep key works properly(since you changed the ecryption from wpa to wep) . all the best. :-)

I've given up and re-installed Kubuntu. Wireless working right after install again. Weird.

I changed to WEP a couple months ago, when I got my 360 and the router was rebooted back then.

All is well again now, guess I'll stick with Kubuntu.

Cheers,

Badders.
