NIC active but still can't get online

Hi

I just reinstalled M9.2 and the wlan-ng driver along with it. On the previous install I used the orinoco_cs driver and it worked fine, but I need the wlan-ng driver to run certain apps so... My problem is that I can't get online anymore, or use the card with apps like ethereal. Other apps, like airfart, work fine, and iwconfig shows that the card is detecting the AP. By contrast, ifconfig doesn't even acknowledge the existence of wlan0.
Any ideas/comments?

Stats:
Distro: Mandrake 9.2
NIC: SMC2532w-b
Driver: wlan-ng (prism2_cs)

Thanks

d
