I have a project that may be just a fit for wifi. I am about to install wireless broadband at my home. The best place for the tower is about 800 feet away. To place the tower next to home requires a much taller tower and additional hardware which adds significantly to the cost.
I have considered bridging that gap with fiber. However by the time I purchase cable and conduit, rent a trencher and acquire the necessary hardware to make the transition from fiber to cat 5 on each end the cost rivals that of relocating the tower.
What types of wireless hardware works best with Linux?
What types of antenna's do I need to look at for fielding 10Mb connection between points?
Is wireless a viable option here?
Where is a good source of info and supplies? (currently burning up google)
You might want to check out netstumbler.com, they have a lot of information about various types of antennae, a small section on linux, and of course wireless, on their forum.
