Netgear wg511 Made in China v3 wireless card

I have a Netgear WG511 wireless card. It is a Version 3 card that was "Made in China". I am running Ubuntu 5.10. My question is, is it possible to get this card working. I have a suspicion that it cannot be made to work, but I would like to know for sure. Thanks.

is it installed? whats lspci say about it, google what lspci says. If there isnt a native driver you might get it going with ndiswrapper.

Thanks for the quick reply. It does show up when I do lspci. It is listed as a "Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette] (rev 01)". The problem is that for some of the versions of the Netgear card, the Prism54 project will work, and for others Ndiswrapper will work. But, previously I have found sketchy results on whether or not my card will work with Ndiswrapper. Most people just suggest trying to swap it out for the "Made in Taiwan" version or just getting a different card. But, after following your suggestion of searching for the lspci entry, I found something that looks promising. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but will post again when I have. Thanks again.

Success

I got it working. I used Ndiswrapper to install the WinXP .inf and .sys files from the cd that came with the card. I am having trouble remembering all of the error messages I got since I installed the drivers, but dmesg was complaining about prism54. Here are the last 3 commands I issued, in case it will help anybody else with similar problem.

sudo rmmod prism54

sudo depmod -a

sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

After the modprobe, my light came on. Thanks for your suggestion short101.

Good post. I was able to follow in your footsteps to get a wg511v3 working on a Toshiba Portege 3110CT running sarge.
