Netgear WG311 v2 in LE 2005?
 

Hi.
It took a lot of work, but I got my Netgear WG311 v2 card working nicely in Mandrake 10.1 using the drivers from Sourceforge (and the instructions from the House of Craig). WEP enabled, YES!
But now I'd like to upgrade to Mandriva LE 2005. What I see from the HCL is that this card is now marked as "Certified" for LE 2005 (where it wasn't for 10.1). Does this mean that this card will work "Out of the Box" if I install 2005LE?
Can anyone have any success or failures with this combination? Can anyone tell me what to expect? Could it possibly be working so well and transparently that there are no problems here? Wouldn't that be great.

I'm not sure that certified means that it will be picked up by a Mandriva install, but the fact that you have it working in 10.1 suggests that it should work in LE 2005. And if it doesn't work right out of the box, you already know how to get it working the old-fashioned way.

I got it working in reasonably short order, using the MadWiFi drivers and a little investigation.
It turned out that installing the drivers and the card was actually pretty straightforeward - it was the setting up of the network that had me stuck in the mud for a bit. Once I discovered the wizzard in the MCC, that went easily also.

Hangdog's advice was good. I didn't have to panic, 'cause I knew I could get other card to function eventually.

BTW, I've been finding 2005 LE much better than 10.1. Two bugs that bothered me (the bug that made it difficult to update the menus and the bug with the desktop icons for mountable devices - involves supermount, I think), are gone. There's more of a feeling of solidity that is a sign of good engineering.
