Netgear USB Wireless NIC
I am new to Linux and running Redhat 9, I am trying to setup a Netgear USB wireless NIC to connect to my wireless network and connect to the internet. The OS does not see the NIC any suggestions?

I'm not sure off the top of my head which chipset that uses, but it may well be linux-wlan project. If you're lucky, though, I think redhat 9 has a utility you can run from the console called "redhat-network-config" that should make setup a snap.

I have tried using network config and it detects the NIC as "other wireless card" then from there I don't see any choice for the Netgear NIC.

What's the model number on that NIC? I'm gonna try Googling it to figure out the appropriate project for you to use... The linux-wlan project would be a good bet, since most USB wlan NICs use the Prism2x chipset, but I don't know for sure. I'd recommend that first, at www.linux-wlan.com. The README enclosed gives a pretty good rundown, but on RH 9 you will probably need to add your DNS servers to /etc/resolv.con and run route add default gw <whatever> when you're done activating it.

Netgear MA101
The USB wireless NIC is a Netgear MA101 Rev.b I have found some information regarding it but none that really helped.

I use the orinoco driver for my NetGear MA401RA
It's not completely stable : with large tranfsers the network stops... But it works.... (writing this post through it now...) I read some info on this site bout the problem that the network stops on large transfers, but i can't seem to find it anymore.... Googling learned that im not the only one... But I did not find an answer... (Untill i was somewhere in this site.. but where was that???) Anyone knows this problem, and hopefully: the solution? Edancas: hop you have something on this... Im quite new to wireless and linux..... |
Wireless NIC
I am thinking it might be easier if I just replace the NIC with another wireless card that is known to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
