Netgear MA111 (USB) with INSERT Rescue CD not working

I have a MA111 USB wireless adapter and I am trying to get it to work with the INSERT security/rescue bootable CD. (insert.cd) The required modules (p80211 and prism2_usb) are already included with the system, however, /etc/modules.conf automatically aliases wlan0 to prism2_pci which I obviously do not have. I cannot change /etc/modules.conf because it is written to the CD and the one in the filesystem is a symbolic link to the one on the CD. Manually aliasing wlan0 to prism2_usb does not work either when I use the instructions from linuxquestions.org/questions/history/148714 because it looks for a PCI card and fails.

Any suggestions?

You could use LifeBoat to build your own custom rescue CD.
