need help choosing hardware...

I've decided to replace my current wired network with a wireless one, i have 2 systems connected 1 running slackware 10 with 2.6.7 kernel and the other system running windows xp pro,i understand i will need to 2 wireless adapters and a router I've decided to go with 54mbps as 108mbps seems a little like overkill for Internet connection sharing and the occasional file transfer, the problem i have is don't any experience with wireless i am kind of lost with all the standards and various things like speed boost technologies etc, i need help choosing the hardware i don't know what is the best and most compatible brand/model whats the pro's and cons?
edit:-i will get the parts from this store http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.a...1&Name=&Page=1

tjb; before committing purchasing device, suggest invest time peruseing LQO,s Hardware Compatibility List & [url]http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO/index.compatibility/hardware section on wireless devices supported by linux & nonsupported, that way u`ll avoid problems after.
