ndiswrapper/g pccard/no lights

hey,

i originally posted this message in the mandriva forum but i think it actually fits betther here.

==================================

can anyone help me w/ installing ndiswrapper v.12?

I'm using mdk10 w/ 2.6.11 kernel. i can compile it, and it detects a successful installation. however, i can't get the lights to go on. here's some copy/paste of the files. i'm using buffalo 54g pccard on dell insprion 1100.

[root@localhost ndiswrapper-1.2rc1]# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
netcg54l driver present

modprobe ndiswrapper
ndiswrapper version 1.2rc1 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)

[root@localhost ndiswrapper-1.2rc1]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

any ideas?

when i'm booted to the original 2.6.3 kernel, the

Code:
[root@localhost ndiswrapper-1.2rc1]# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
netcg54l driver present
has an additional "hardware present" message. however, the 'hardware message is absent in the 2.6.11 kernel. the lights don't go on in either case.

any ideas? thanks.

I would need to check but from memory you need to do a 'ndiswrapper -m' to create a modprobe module entry. This should say something like 'added wlan0 to /etc/modprobe.conf'
You should then type 'modprobe wlan0' (if wlan0 is what was displayed) and the light should come on.
You will still need to assign an IP address with ifconfig, configure mode (i.e. Managed or Ad-Hoc) and ESSID with iwconfig, add your router as default gateway, and make sure your firewall is configured properly before connecting to the Internet.
