Hi, any information on these questions will be greatly appreciated!
First of all i'll give you my specs, bear with me! :
I'm dual booting XP with RedHat.
I installed GNOME.
I have a Microsoft wireless networking adaptor that is connected to my box by USB!!
Everything works fine with WinXP. The base station is running WinXP.
The base station is a Microsoft MN-550 (cable modem).
My box's adaptor is MS's MN-510.
Remember, its USB.
Now, i've done alot of research on finding a driver, for using RedHat's network setup does not work. I'm assuming that it does not come with a driver for MS, so I'll probably need to download a driver and maybe add some code.
I'm all new to linux so adding any code will be somewhat difficult right now! :-) Now, at one url i found that linux-wlan-ng has developed a driver for my MS usb adaptor. It is a type of the linux-wlan-ng. (
www.linuxwlan.com) The version i need, it says, is the 0.1.16-pre1. I think that my adaptor may be referred to as Prism2 or 2.5, but i dont know.
As of now, i downloaded that driver to a cd, and i booted up RedHat and the cd automatically loads, shows this file (linux-wlan-ng-0.1.16-pre1.tar.gz). So what do i do from here? How do i execute, open, uncompress it? (do whatever is necessary).
Now, i dont' even know if that is the right driver. Is it? Also.......
i've read about hostAP. Somebody told me that its' not compatible with USB, and somebody else said it is. If it is, how would i go about doing that. Also, if it is, which way is easier?
I hope i have given you all info necessary so you can help me. I want to learn alot about linux, so right now i'm a newbie, and want to start!!! Help me asap, and thank you very much.
p.s. A step by step guide to do this would be extremely useful, even if it is a url! And, you can e-mail me at
