MDK 10.0 and netgear MA401

I recently installed Mandrake 10.0 on a dell inspiron 1100, and after upgrading the bios everything went pretty smooth. Till now. I had my netgear ma401 card working, accessing the internet and sharing files over my network, but now the card is not detected on boot. When it says," starting PCMCIA, the light on the card doesn't come one, like it used too, and I get an error message that eth1 can't load because the hardware has been removed. Something about can't load orinico (spelling?) driver because hardware is not there.

the last couple of times i booted it up, I had to reconfigure the card on boot each time, saying new hardware found, etc. I'm dualbooting with win 2000 and the card works fine under that, so I'm sure the card works. I even swapped another ma401 card out of my wife's laptop, and the same thing happens.

When I go into the mandrake control center, it says pcmcia is running, but no cards in slot. I'm leaning towards a driver conflict with the pcmcia slot itself and not the card, but I have no idea how to tackle this. Everything I've googled about the 1100, says the pcmcia works out of the box with all recent distros.

Any ideas of where to start? I haven't changed any settings at all. Newbie is the keyword, too.

Maybe reinstall the pcmcia packages?
