linux gentoo network not connecting through wireless bridge
We recently set up a small Gentoo Linux box in text (command line) mode as an automated backup off site from our office. We also installed, on a separate box, Red Hat 9.0 just for a second Linux box to test with in GUI mode. We then installed a wireless Bridge using 2 Linksys WAP-11 Access points and directional antennas to the remote location. The wireless access points should form a transparent link between the two networks.
In testing the Gentoo box we have discovered that we cannot ping to any device beyond the LinkSys Bridge. BUT we can ping from the Red Hat box to anywhere on the bridged network. From both sides of the bridge normal Windows PC's communicate without any difficulty. pcAnywhere works fine either direction. High Speed Internet access is shared through the wireless bridge as well.
There is no router or switch between the Linux boxes which are currently plugged into the same hub in the main office and the wirelessly linked remote network. All units in the remote network are set for fixed IP as is the Gentoo box.
From the Gentoo box I can ping the Access point on the office side but NOT the access point on the remote side or any PC on the remote side. From the Red Hat box I can ping both access points AND pc's on the remote side.
I have updated both Access Points to the latest firmware to assure compatibility.
I am a Newbie to Linux but am trying to learn quickly.
Any Suggestions?
