Linksys WMP54G
Ok guys and girls, first off let me say that I am an absolute Linux noob.
I just finished building my gaming computer and, naturally, didn't know that all those system recovery discs I have for my old computers (three right now) won't install Win XP on my new computer because it has a different mobo (I have to assume this is the reason, because I tried with all the OEM hardware, even HDDs, and it wouldn't do it). Having just spent $800 I don't have on parts, I'm not about to go out and buy an OEM Win XP O/S for $100 just to play games. That's ridiculous. Also, this is the culmination of my distain for Microsoft, so I'll gladly go through a Linux install and pay Cadega $5 a month just to play my games on a non-XP machine.
I've tried and tried to install from ISO CDs I've made myself, but it just doesn't want to work. One of the discs always has problems, and I've decided to just go and do a net install.
Only my wi-fi card isn't supported, and I need to make it work because I can't run a cord two floors up to install it, only to have it not work afterwards (I want to play WoW on my gaming PC with the nice video card and whatnot).
Can anyone help me out? I need a kernel module or something that'll allow me to install the wifi card at the beginning of a SUSE 10.1 net install. Also, I do have a Knoppix LiveCD that works, if that'll help (i.e. I can install via this route).
Please keep in mind that I am a total noob and don't even know how to do basic Linux shell commands (I barely even know what that is). So please feel encouraged to dumb it down as much as possible, I will not take offense.
Thanks in advance for any and all help, and I apologize for the long post.
