Linksys Wireless Card
 

OK, i've done a little research on this and am still quite buffaloed. I have a linksys wireless PCI card WMP11 ver 2.7. I bought off friend about a week ago and works much better in windows than D-link i bought previously. It actually maintains signal. However, I can't get it to work in linux. Now, everywhere I look people say this version has Broadcom chipset and it won't work and they refer to this link:

But how can everyone trust only one source and give up?

Now I've found another post, on google groups i think, that says broadcom has drivers for this device and gives this link:

But you have to choose from either BCM57xx drivers or BCM4401 drivers. I've tried to install them both but are these even the right drivers? How do i know which one I need, and what's the correct way to install them in FC3? I've followed all the directions in the readme and did the insmod bcnm4400.ko and make install, but i'm lost after that. How do I test to see if it's working pick a wireless network etc... I'm not a total noob to linux but I've been away from it so long I need a little help getting started again. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.

I believe you're using the wrong drivers. I own a Linksys WMP11 card, and I am fairly sure it's the 2.7 version. Mine has a BCM4303 chipset. (lspci | grep -i broadcom) Not to worry, there is hope for these cards in linux! In fact, they work quite well. I hope that your card is the same version as mine.

You'll need to use a small package called ndiswrapper. It allows you to use a windows wlan driver in linux. You'll also need the latest windows drivers for your card, and probably a set of kernel sources and headers.

The docs supplied with it should be sufficient, it's pretty easy to figure out. So I'll leave the rest up to you.

If you just want to check to see if your wireless card is showing up, type "iwconfig" and see if it brings up a "wlan0."

Thanks a lot! I really think this is going to work. I'm downloading all of the files in windows now and printing off the pages so I can do this in linux. I think it's going to work. I hope this post is easy to find for more peeps in my situation.
