Laptop and wireless networking

I installed Mandrake 10 Com on my DELL inspiron 1100. The card I have is a Microsoft MN-720 pcmcia.

When I run through the netowrk connection wizard in mandrake I choose wireless, then choose the orinoco_cs driver. It says "Orinoco_cs" device found, do you have another?" then I select no. Then it says "Manual Choice" but no orinoco in the list. Then it just starts over.

When I run cardctl ident i get:

Socket 0:
No product info available.

When i run lspci I dont see anything with my wireless card, all I see is my chipset, usb controller and cardbus bridge info.

I tried the prism54 drivers and no go. I read on a few forums that the MS card should work with the orinoco drivers.

Any Ideas?

EDIT: Oh I have run through many searches on this site and tried everything I could find, but the infomation is all over the place so its hard to parce through it.

ok so ndiswrapper started up my card and I have it connected to my access point, and iwconfig verifys that. Is there a way to get linux to see that its connected to the net or actually use the wireless card?

Thanks in advance!

can you give me instructions ?

hey there chuck,

can you givve me detailed instructions of how you installed the ndiswrapper and the steps you took to configuring your card? ?

i have been struggling with my wireless for a while, i also have the mn 720 and i had a lot of trouble trying to get it running. Had even given up for a while in the last distributions.

Did you get it running and recognizing the base ?

thanks for any help !

The build should link to /usr/src/linux (Note that linux is a symlink to the actual kernel source directory with the version number in your /usr/src directory)

I also like to echo the request on how you got the MN720 working after that it wasn't found with cardctl kidoido, there are more people with this problem so anything helps Thanks in advance!

Ok darkleaf,

Here's what i did...

Installed the ndiswrapper and then started working following their instructions and the mn720 driver for windows

I also had installed the linuxant driver loader. However, i did not configured the card using the linuxant driver. I just installed the linuxant and used the ndiswrapper.

You can check at the ndiswrapper page if they already have the support for the mn720 card and try using just the ndiswrapper.
If it still doesn't work try installing the linxant driver and give it another shot using the ndiswrapper.

my card does not load automatically on boot. i use a startup script when i need to use it.

I have to go now... but if this doesn't work post another msg.

good luck
