Lan Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter configuration
Hi all,
Regarding to my matter .. i had just installed Linux Red Hat 9 in my laptop, the problem now is that is seem that the system cannot detect my build in wireless. that is the "Lan Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter " . I heard that some one say that my network adapter is compatible with the orinoco pci wireless ... however i cannot get the driver in the list ... what i have to do? is there any other driver that i can use for running this adapter. or is there any way i can install the driver from internet that can run my wireless I am new to linux and don't know whether that it is the same with the installation in windows. so will there be any command that i need to know in order to install this driver ? what is the algorithms ? thank you guys in advance ... regards Billy |
i had found found in google that we can use ndiswrapper to manually install our driver however when i refer back to my windows directory .. i say that my wireless driver is stored in the file called bvmwl5.inf however when i installed it using ndiswrapper it state there that my driver is invalid .. is there other driver for my wireless adapter ??
any one know the driver name ? thanks |
RH9 supports wavelan and prism2 chipsets for wireless nics by default. The orinoco pci wireless is a wavelan card. So it should work out of the box.
Tell us what steps you have done to configure your card. What the result was. Also, show us lspci and dmesg output. If you want to go the third party route - you can google your card name and get the drivers off the manufacturer or the card - chances are you'll only get windows drivers so you may have to find an NdisWrapper for it. (google that too). Driver name:http://radarsync.ecnext.com/coms2/ra...L_LAN-Express_ Go get it :) |

Curious - the card is supposed to be a wavelan card. The driver has been in the kernel for donkey's years.
Did you follow my advise? (See sig.) Quote:
This page suggests that the adapter is a prism chipset with non-standard configuration. Still, it should work with the kernel prism driver. http://www.opentechsupport.net/forum...ad.php?t=39446 ... the card seems to be problematical anyway. The drivers are available from HP. Considering the reports of instability concerning this card, I'd consider using a different one. Driver guide: http://members.driverguide.com/drive...driverid=95761 |
