knoppmyth and linksys wusb54gv2

I have been trying to get the wusb54gv2 working for quite some time on knoppmyth (mythtv). It's basically a debian-type machine. My problem is when I plug in the USB device, lspci -v doesn't show the device, at least not like the firmware from that device, or enough to know what it is. I downloaded the prism54 driver and got that installed. Now when I plug in the device, the prism driver assigns to it, but alas I still am unable to ifup the device.

root@zoom:/etc/modutils# ifup wlan0
wlanctl-ng: No such device
Failed to enable the device, exitcode= 1 .
run-parts: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/linux-wlan-ng-pre-up exited with return code 1
wlanctl-ng: No such device
Failed to enable the device, exitcode= 1 .
run-parts: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/linux-wlan-ng_pre-up exited with return code 1
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
root@zoom:/etc/modutils#

not really sure what's wrong. I'm really not even sure if I am going about it the right way, any suggestions?
