Just a question about AirSnort
Hi All,
I just have a few small questions about airsnort. Ive been using it for a while now and have built up a log of about 686Mb of which 80 packets were considered "interesting".From a previous session where I hadnt the log to file option chosen I created a "crack file" on closing and had gathered 550 "interesting" packets. Q1.From what I gathered I think a crack file is just a file containing only the "interesting" packets and is just a way of saving space but is just as useful as a large logfile? Q2.Therefore I thought that I could load the crack file and the large log file into airsnort and the number of "interesting" packets would just be combined but this doesnt seem to be the case. Airsnort seems to hold the amount of interesting packets from the first file added and not combine them.Am i missing something? Q3.Also when loading the logfile with 80 packets on its own or the crack file with 550 packets on its own the CPU jumps to a 100%.I take it that when these are added it begins an attempt to crack.I thought this and left my laptop on overnight running at this speed and 12 hours later there was no joy.My laptop got too hot so i had to turn it off.The crack file containig 550 packets is only 11Kb in size and I cant imagine trying to crack such a small size file would require such intense work by the CPU or does it and should I have left it on longer? There are probably easy answers to these questions so I would be muched obliged if people could suggest where I am making my mistakes. Regards Prompt |
You'll need around 3000 - 4000 interesting packets and a lot of luck to crack wep with airsnort.
I think airsnort has a utility that can combine log files. Check the folder where you installed airsnort. |
AirCrack
Thanks for reply,
Was told by someone that AirCrack was a better tool and I cracked my 650Mb file with only 80 "interesting" packets in 3 seconds. I would advise anyone testing their networks to use AirCrack rather than AirSnort as it is way more efficient even though AirSnort does get all the press. Regards prompt |
