iwconfig thinks my 802.11g card is 802.11b

Hello everyone,

I've been having some odd problems. When I do iwconfig, I get this:
Code:

wlan0    IEEE 802.11b  ESSID:"IceCube"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.412 GHz  Access Point: 00:11:24:02:28:6F
          Bit Rate:48 Mb/s  Sensitivity=-200 dBm
          RTS thr:2346 B  Fragment thr:2346 B
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality:98/100  Signal level:-56 dBm  Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:912296  Invalid misc:1734189  Missed beacon:0

But my card is an 802.11g card, it's the DWL-G510 using the Marvell chipset, the driver being mrv8ka51 and obtained from the ndiswrapper website ( and not the ones on the CD ).

I often get a rating of 54Mb/s but the throughput I get seems to be along the lines of an 802.11b connection whereas with my laptop, I get much higher transfer speeds.

Any suggestions?

I'm running Gentoo with the 2.6.9 Gentoo Kernel with ndiswrapper 0.12-r3.

Thanks in advance.

regardless of what it says, it also sya's you're transferoing at almost 54mb, (e.g. wireless g speeds)

I think you're too focused on the details.
