iwconfig


Could someone PLEASE for the love of anything explain to me why iwconfig WILL NOT set the Mode of my Wireless card..

[root@linuxbox ~]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

Warning: Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 20
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 19.
Some things may be broken...

wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"Basement" Nickname:"linuxbox"
Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.437 GHz Cell: 00:13:46:F5:69:9C
Bit Rate=11 Mb/s Tx-Power:20 dBm Sensitivity=-121 dBm
RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr=2346 B
Encryption key:9AF8-234C-0B12-FEC3-95BA-2154-64 Security modepen

Any Ideas? and no matter WHAT I try the GUI is useless Won't let me connect no matter what I try. I've got this to connect a couple times, no hang ups no freezing worked Fine.. After I rebooted It won't let me change the mode from Ad-Hoc to Managed

Not entirely sure,

Had a quick look at the madwifi wiki.

http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/ChangingMode

They state that you have to destroy the interface first!
