IPW2200 probelm

Code:
http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/INSTALL

2. The following error appears in the dmesg kernel ring buffer output:
ipw2200: ipw-2.4-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:03.0 failed with error -5

CAUSE: this may be due to any one of the following reasons:
- firmware in wrong location or wrong firmware version. Follow the
instructions in the section LOADING FIRMWARE VIA HOT-PLUG above.
- sysfs may not be mounted. Follow the instructions in the SYSFS section
   above.
I read the INSTALL text, saying that the above message might be the reason resulted in the failure loading firmware of ipw2200. However, after checking several times, I found out I had firmware installed on the location specified by firmware.agent and /sys also mounted (why issuing command 'mount -a', it say '... already mounted or /sys busy').

but I still get error message when trying to restart network by /etc/init.d/networking restart with message

Error for wireless request "set mode"(8B06) : ...

What are correct steps to setup wireless card and have access to internet?

kernel: 2.6.16 config ipw2200 as module, 802 as built-in.

Thanks in advice.

After testing several way, finally I found out why.

The problem is resulted from the moudle was built as default, not as module. so the firmware can't be recognized by the kernel. Thus, when configuring the kernel (make menuconfig), i change to set the ieee80211 as module. Then the firmware can be loaded correctly. But there is still another problem. The laptop only can detect the ap. It can't connect to it. Moreover, there has not any error message appeared on screen or syslog, when issuing command such as 'ifdown eth1', 'ifup eth1' and so on.

Any possible reasons may cause such kind of problem?

Thanks in advice,

IPW2200 problem

I was having the same problem, these are the steps I made to hopefully resolve it.

I had put the version 2.4 fw files in the /lib/firmware/ folder then included the FW version 3.0 also. I am using a Gateway Model #450RGH with the Intel Wireless.

I also noticed that when and if this works you'll also get a message when using dmesg<PCI: Bus#XX (-#XX) is hidden behind transparent bridge #XX (-#XX) (try 'pci=assign-busses')
Which i used the su -c 'pci=assign-busses'

I hope this helps, let me know.

Have a great and super day
