ipw2200 cant get ip of dhcp, only works when static one set
Got new dell laptop recently and wiped all traces of windows and installed fc4. Amazingly ot the wireless to work with onyl two nours work!!
My prob is that the wireless card will only work if i specify an ip address, gateway etc. If i set it to get from a dhcp server(my router, which servers dhcp to home computer) it fails after a 3 minute wait. dmesg gives error eth1: no IPv6 routers present it d be great to get dhcp workin so that o can use the wireless in college etc. i installed the card using yum, and then creating a network script. thanks james |
does FC have a file like /etc/network/interfaces
shmmm, sounds like it's trying to find an IP v6 server. does the other NIC work on dhcp? |
i cant seem to find any such file on the fedora system. I ve checked settings again and its set not to enable IPv6. Could it be a problem with the way I installed the drivers. Incomplete installation or something like that??
thanks again james |
well, no, because if it works manually then i think that things are working fine generally speaking. it's just a case of making dhcp daemon work. but i think it may be that it's not passing the wep key when you run dhcp. thus i think you need to find a way to save to encryption key somehow. but i dont know how to do that on fedora.
fyi: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/~scs49/install_linux.html http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2-2200BG.shtml dont be tempted to use ndiswrapper or anything. you card is working fine it's just a config issue... |
