ioctl[SIOCGIFADDR]: Cannot assign requested address
 

I'm running the latest Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 700m... have everything tweaked to my desire except one thing: Being able to roam and connect to wireless networks. Using Ifpludg and wpa_supplicant to aid me with that. Close the laptop here, drive to my buddies house... open it and be connected there.

But wpa_supplicant gets this error... on boot and resume:

ioctl[SIOCGIFADDR]: Cannot assign requested address

I get auth'd and associated just no IP addy.

dhclient fixes it... but i can just as easily scan and connect to a network manually as i can open T and type dhclient.

I'm not sure what I missed, but any thoughts would be appreciated. Let me know what dumps you may need to help me solve the issue.


The "Network Monitor" that comes bundled is not configured so thats not the problem.

Well, nevermind, I believe the problem has been solved with some changes to /etc/network/interfaces


I have to applaud the linux community, wireless networking is getting very very close to being as *commonly* usable by all as windows. I know the hardware/nic driver issue sucks, I've been there but linuxant/ndis has always worked for me, since I've owned a wireless laptop, after enough trial and error. So chins up every one. Or go buy a netgear :-)

The only thing I haven't yet managed to do with it is get onto my college's LEAP auth wireless network... but I heard it is do-able now, which is exciting. That is my next mission. I tried once before, but I'm sure the software I was using has come along way in the last year. Haven't tried since.
