Hello, I am jumping on the bandwagon of those whom are currently unimpressed with internet and download speeds on Linux.
I have a 1.5mb/s DSL connection and am currently downloading at a rate of 5-30kb/s.
All other computers on the network are running Windows XP and they download at 50-300kb/s.
I'm not talking about peer to peer downloads, so it's not because I'm downloading from people with slow or slower internet.
I've tested downloading a 3mb file from the same website, on three different computers... Here are the results
Computer 1:
OS: Fedora Core 4
Browser: Firefox
Time Taken: 13 minutes
Computer 2:
OS: Windows XP
Browser: Firefox
Time Taken: 2 minutes
Computer 3:
OS: Windows XP
Browser: Internet Explorer
Time Taken: 4 minutes
All computers are using the same network and so I'd expect the same or atleast similar results regardless of the operating software.
I've tried:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...weak+broadband
and installed two plugins from there, "Tweak Network Settings" and "Edit User Files"..
I've also gone into "about
:config" and disabled/enabled various things as described in other threads.
When I type into the terminal: gedit /etc/modprobe.conf
I get these results (the Ipv6 ones have been fiddled with as a result of other threads which indicate that they could resolve my issue)
"alias eth0 e100
alias scsi_hostadapter ata_piix
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-emu10k1 index=0
remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper"
And yes, there's a blank line at the bottom, I just feel no need to carry that into the quote.
So basically I'm hoping somebody will understand my issue and be able to give some better advice, possibly I have bad settings... I really don't know. Possibly all the different edits are conflicting and causing issues...
Any advice is appreciated, questions are welcome.
