Installing an Orinoco 31219 PCMCIA card
So I have successfully installed Slack 10.1 on my pavillion ze1110 laptop, with little to no problem (I have to update the sound drivers and ACPI, but nothing major). However, I run into a stumbling block when I try to configure my PCMCIA a/b/g wireless card, made by Proxim.
I have downloaded the correct drivers (both XP and 2k) from Proxim's website, and installed first the XP and then the 2k (when XP wouldn't work) drivers into ndiswrapper (this particular card is listed as having absolutely no problem under the ndiswrapper compatability list though the card itself isn't mentioned on the HCL). The drivers install just fine, but no hardware is detected, even after reseating the wireless card and restarting rc.pcmcia. I don't have the specific error message here (different computer, obviously), but later when I checked the results of "ndiswrapper -l" both sets of drivers mentioned that they had either failled or were incorrect (I'll get the proper message tomorrow), and still with no hardware detected. I'm sure I'll have little trouble once the card is detected, but this of course is the first step; how do I get that dang thing to register? -- Poetics |
I think there are orinoco drivers around. You might want to try these instead of ndiswrapper

Sadly though I was looking around and found the following:

Can you still post the messages then? Are those the only windows drivers available. Maybe reinstalling would help you can delete with "ndiswrapper -e" iirc and then try again. If that doesn't work maybe try other versions of the driver. You can also try with the newest version of ndiswrapper if you haven't tried that already.

I'll get the specific messages tonight or tomorrow -- I've been pretty busy today.
I had to download ndiswrapper (for some reason my Slack install didn't include it), so I made sure to get the latest one. To the best of my knowledge, those are the only Windows drivers as well, so I'll see what pops out of that. As I said, though, error messages coming soon -- thanks for the help! |
Code:
~/# ndiswrapper -l From the ndiswrapper website: Quote:
Additional Commands run: Code:
~/# cardmgr |
Have you tried reinstalling those drivers? Remove them first with ndiswrapper -e and then install again.

I've done that several times -- installing both, then just one, or the other, et cetera
