Hi all, I'm one of those fair weather Linux folks. I learn some Linux, maybe even install it and then when things get busy I drop back to using it as little as possible.
I still support it whole, but I can't seem to get through an issue after 1 day, then I never resolve it. I'm hoping to finally fight an issue through day 2, here.
I have an old Inspiron XPS laptop from Dell. It was bogged by Wind0ze so I dedicated it to Fedora Core 7. I figure this will help get my girlfriend and I, into Linux. </fluff>

I have a Wireless Mini PCI 1350 by Intel. I have downloaded the appropriate drivers and NDIS Wrapper.
ndiswrapper reveals:
<issue>
If I type ifconfig wlan0 up I will get the error:
Code:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
I'm told this is an IRQ issue from what I've looked up, but I can't seem to figure out how to resolve it. I have only 1 mini pci slot, and the BIOS won't let me mess with IRQ. Not to mention I have no idea if that's the real issue.
When ndiswrapper -l tells you there's an alternate driver, that's a potential problem. If that other driver is actually in use, it will prevent the ndiswrapper driver from working properly. So, if the other driver is a module, it may help to remove it with modprobe -r.
Downloaded the stuff, unpacked it but I don't have bcm43xx-fwcutter so
the step bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0/kmod/wl_apsta.o
can't happen. Or am I dumb?
LASTLY, for good measure is is my iwconfig wlan0:
Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:""
Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2346 B
Encryption key:off
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I did modprobe -r bcm43xx
which ran successfully, but when I do ndiswrapper -l I still see it.
even did modprobe -r bcm43xx-mac80211
and now ifconfig seems to work! THANKS! I'll continue messing with this and update you all.
