Check that page and find out if your card is supported by the driver Prism54. Compile and install it is darn simple, no need to rebuild kernel with it latest CVS source for 2.6 or 2.4, just compile and install it as a module. All instructions are in its README file.
I have not seen a driver that supports so many cards. You need to do some extra work after driver install though, but I have posted some info that should help.

What about the AMD am1772 chipset? It's not listed there. It's not listed on the NDISwrapper site. AMD says to ask the vendor and the vendor doesn't even list the card I have on their website.

Please be ware. Buy those WG511 cards that are manufactured in Taiwan and are dated Nov 2003. The new ones are manufactured in China, dated 2004 and the firmwares posted at http://prism54.org/ do not match. They do not work with Prism54 driver, at least for now. That's what I found out today.
tho_x_tran; thank you for that inforamtion. newbie,s duly note: these refereral,s are what would be w, update & patches.. however this is direct
from user to user tried & true.
If you are into ndiswrapper, the WPC54G shoud be recommended. I installed Mandrake 10, ndiswrapper .10, and the kernel-source. Supposedly it's a broadcom chipset, but I used the top level *.inf file on the winXP cd that came with the card and it's running without a hitch. Worked a helluva lot better than DLink. It didn't work without jumping thru a couple hoops, but it's still the easiest that I've dealt with.
Well occording to that list I still have hope to making my proxim orinoco gold card work with linux. This is my last hope for a driver so I hope that list you posted is tried and true ;o.
