i am new in backtrack 5r3 i have tl wn725n wireless adapter i could'nt install in bt5

hello everybody i am a new baby in backtrack 5r3 i have some problem
there:

1) i have tp link wn725n wireless adapter which is cannot install
in BT5R3 i connect my wifi adapter to usb port but hardware can't
detected there & also driver cannot install properly. now my
question is: can backtrack support TP LINK wn725n?? one thing
i want to tell you that i use workstation VMWARE 11
& i have USB Wireless adapter.

TobiSGD 04-24-2015 11:17 AM

1. Backtrack is deprecated and totally unsupported. Use its successor Kali Linux instead.
2. Have you passed the USB device through to the VM?

damit224123 04-24-2015 10:18 PM

as you say i try kali linux from utorrent its downloading now.. will you please tell me how to install kali linux in VMware & VIRTUAL BOX in which version...
thanks a lot..

TobiSGD 04-24-2015 10:48 PM

For information how to install an OS into a virtual machine please look at the manual for the respective product. I don't have much experience with VMware products, but the Virtualbox manual is well written and describes the process well.

in kali linux my usb port is not working properly. i have not passed usb in virtual box. what should i do???? please guide me

TobiSGD 04-26-2015 09:14 AM

To be able to pass thorugh USB devices to a VM you have to install the Expansion Pack first. You can get it from the Virtualbox website, information how to install it: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch0...tro-installing
Information on how to pass USB devices to a VM here: http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#idp96329040

thanks for reply, will you please tell me from where i can found expansion pack. will u give the link. actually i install already virtual box... is there is any different between virtual box and expansion pack... please reply thanks again....

TobiSGD 04-26-2015 10:34 AM

The Expansion Pack enables some features that are not present in plain Virtualbox, in your case it is needed for USB pass-through. It extends Virtualbox, but it does not replace it, so that you have Virtualbox already installed is fine.
As I said, you can get it from the Virtualbox website: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

actually one thing please tell me what is vendor and product id, is it necessary? my adapter is tp link wn725n what's its vendor and product id??? thanks........ can lsusb command help me for this???

TobiSGD 04-26-2015 12:48 PM

Indeed, lsusb will show you the vendor and product ID. For example, an output like this (for my mouse):
Code:

Bus 009 Device 002: ID 046d:c051 Logitech, Inc. G3 (MX518) Optical Mouse
tells you that the vendor ID is 046d and the product ID is c051.

is it linked to my USB??? for passed the USB with my wifi adapter should i need USB 2.0 EHCI controller??? from VM whenever i try to configure the USB and choose the above mentioned USB version means 2.0 EHCI controller its show the invalid settings detected.. please tell me what is the solution... thanks for answering...

John VV 04-27-2015 01:11 AM

that "beta" in the name

meant it is NOT YET READY FOR EVERYDAY USE

it is STILL in testing

only use TESTING versions if you are going to look and FIX bugs in that TESTING version

also BE AWARE !!!!
that Kali is a single purpose operating system
--- BREAKING INTO networks and computers
( you MUST have the LEGAL!!!! authority to crack a network you are trying to crack )

if not
do not pass go
do not collect $200
go directly to jail

it is designed to be used BY EXPERTS !!! in computer network security
and by expert i DO MEAN someone with a masters degree in CS and security or BETTER ( or real world equivalent experience )

also the target user of Kali ( or the very OLD BT5 )
should ( from memory) be able wright the guides on how to install a VM

it really ONLY has ONE purpose ( safe cracking)

damit224123 04-27-2015 01:37 AM

thanks... i am complete & doing job INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, don't worry it just only for my knowledge thanks again.. please tell me now what shall i do my version is beta Virtual box which version should i use for passed my WIFI ADAPTERAND AND ACTIVATE USB 2.0 EHCI CONTROLLER...

TobiSGD 04-27-2015 04:17 AM

The Virtualbox website doesn't seem to offer an Extension Pack for 5.0 yet. So the obvious solution is to go for the latest supported version, which is 4.3.26.

damit224123 04-27-2015 05:57 AM

i already installed VB BETA please give me the link of VB version 4.3.26 cause you gave above mentioned Link, which is show only extension version and 4.3.26 version this is linux host version.. but when i click in 4.3.26 linux host version then open another page,in that page it says choose linux distribution and have two option i386 another AMD64. i have 32 bit kali linux. which option i choose???
