How to test wifi transfer speed with use of one computer and one router?

I have problem with wifi connection quality.
I would like to tune router settings testing configurations one by one.
I have idea to connect my computer by cable and wifi at the same time and try to transfer via ssh from one interface to the second.
But unfortunately when I try to connect by relevant IP everything always goes by localhost and network is not involved. Is it possible to make a loop via router and test wifi transfer properly?

If you're using scp to transfer files you could pass a different BindAddress option via the -o switch.
