how to choose a specific access point

I have a question about the wlanctl-ng tool that comes with linux-wlan-ng prism2 drivers. Is there a way to specify the access point it connects to? Im unable to use the regular wireless tools since they do not work with the linux-wlan-ng driver. I used wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=name authtype=opensystem to specify the ssid i want to connect to, but it will not connect. Is there something else that needs to be done? Or is there a program that will list the access points and let me choose which to connect to?
