How do you enter a Wep key?

I am using ndiswrapper to setup my Dell 1450 wireless card. It seems to be working appropriately on non-WEP AP's, but I can't seem to get it to work with WEP. I think I am fundamentally missing something:

Everything I read says that 128-bit WEP encryption should be able to be added using something like

iwconfig wlan0 key open <wepkey>

where wepkey is a 10 digit hex number. I don't understand why it's only 10 hex digits. The hex number I have is 26 digits. Is this the totally wrong number? Should I be using some subportion of this? If someone could straighten me out on this, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks.

10-digit hex is for 40-bit (64-bit) WEP. (Assuming that "6f" is two digits) Just use the whole thing.

The same tutorials say that 40-bit WEP takes a 6 digit hex. Like: http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/w...elessCardSetup
as well as several references I've found here on LQ.

They say 40-bit (64-bit) takes 6 hex digits and 104-bit (128-bit) takes 10 hex digits. Which I still don't understand. But I'll go ahead and continue trying to use all 26 digits. Maybe my problem lies elsewhere.

I just generated a 128-bit key on my router, and it was 13 characters, or 26 hex "digits" as you say. The 64-bit key was 5 characters, 10 "digits"....
