Help! Wireless connection gone after connecting to wired netwrok

I am using ubuntu gutsy gibbon on my laptop.
I've been enjoying wireless connection until I connected my laptop to an internet cable. Since then, the laptop has not been detecting wireless connections.

I've checked and my "firmware for Broadcom 43xx chipset family" is "in-use".

I've tried connecting to my office's wireless connection countless times and I am sure that the WEP key I have been entering is correct, but to no avail. The laptop is also unable to detect other wi-fi signals.

I also tried the ff: dialogue in the terminal:

erika@erika-laptop:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 IEEE 802.11b/g ESSIDff/any Nickname:"Broadcom 4311"
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.472 GHz Access Point: Invalid
Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=18 dBm
RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=-256 dBm Noise level=-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I don't know what to do next. Please advise.

Hi there,

I'm no expert, but did you check you config file, to see if your wireless card starts on boot.

Otherwise, from the config file, you could check which network card is preferred for connecting to the web.

I have a feeling that it's only a matter of telling your linux box to choose the wireless connection over the cable network.

Cheers
