So, I go out and buy a laptop for college. I'm stuck with Vista until I can find a version of Fedora 11 that will work with Intel - no luck, but still looking. Anyhow, I have the internet working just fine on my desktop running K-Ubuntu. I'm having to run through my grandparents' internet wirelessly and, while I know most of the wording, I cannot remember the last two of the passcode. So, I was wondering, is there any way that I can see what the current passcode I'm using the connect to the internet on my desktop is so that I can get my laptop connected? I've asked my grandparents, but neither of them remember the passcode and they didn't bother to write it down... And doing a general search on google or LQ didn't turn up anything.

Help???

Something doesn't add up here. How did you manage to get your Kubuntu desktop connected to the internet, yet you cannot get the laptop connected (by the same means, I presume)?? I hope you don't mind me saying so, but according to your website, you live with your boyfriend; do you both live with your grandparents too? Nice website, btw.

Unfortunately, nobody here knows who you are, nor whether your grandparents are really your grandparents or if they're the folks next door with a WEP-encrypted router you're trying to hijack. If you were a looooooooong-time member in good standing, this might be different, but probably not.

A best suggestion would be to ask your grandparents to contact their ISP or internet provider, and request the password, or ask that it be changed.

Meanwhile, the version of Fedora 11 that works with Intel (Intel what??) is called "Fedora 11" which is available for x86 and if I recall, x86_64 -- you can Google it up, and download it for free.

If I understand you correctly you want to access internet with your laptop using the wireless connection at your grandparents house but nobody quite remembers the passwords.

There are ways to find out the password for the wireless connection, stored on the computer that your grandparents, that is if they use wireless. But the way to do it is not really something that would be discussed here.

In my opinion, your best option is to reset the router to it's factory defaults and configure it again. That will give you the advantage that you'll know how it's configured.

Post the type of router or look for a manual on Google.

I need to go in and edit my website. Thank you for pointing that out to me. My boyfriend and I lost our apartment back in January and we're now living in sepearate houses until we can get back up on our feet. I live with my grandparents for the time being.

My Linux desktop was connected to their internet wirelessly when I first moved into their house in late January. But, as I stated in my first post, none of us can remember the full password. We know the word, but we cannot remember the numbers used at the end. My grandparents didn't bother to write it down either.

And, it's Intel integrated graphics, if I remember correctly. I tried to install Fedora 11 using a KDE version on the idea from my CIS teacher that it might work, but it didn't. So, that's where I'm assuming that there's a version out for Intel.

Here's my comp specs:

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2GHz
4GB RAM
64-bit OS

I'll talk to my grandparents when I get out of class and see if they'll be willing to reset and reconfigure their router - I'll also get the information on the router as well.

I'll post again with an update if my grandparents are willing - or if they're not - to reset and reconfigure the router so that we'll all know the password - and make sure to write it down.

And yes, if the router is the culprit, that should be an easy fix, by resetting the router to its defaults.

Alternately, I can't imagine it would take more than 15 minutes or so, to try every "last 2 digits" combination from 00-99
