Well, now that I've had a long, detailed post completely obliterated because I posted URL's to other relevant threads inside...
Apologies if this post seems less warm and cuddly. That's quite an interesting rule to disallow URL's if someone's post count is under 5.
In the interest of bandwidth, here is what I'll refer to below as
Error X:

- I am trying to get a D-Link DWL-520 wireless card (Revision "C") to work with Mandrake 10 running a KDE desktop environment.
- This is my first install of linux.
- While I was decent at Unix syntax back in college (TCSH was my favorite shell, loved vi, etc, etc) I am quite lost.
- KDE currently sees my wireless PCI card as an "ADM8201 Wireless Adapter"
- If I select this card and click the "Run Config Tool" button, I am met with a menu asking what type of connection I'd like to configure. I move the radio button to Wireless and click Next.
- I immediately get Error X.
- I am then only presented with one option -- a radio dot for Manual Choice next to Net Device.
- When choosing any of the Prism or Orinico options other than prism2_plx or plain-jane orinico, I am met with Error X
- If I choose one of those two exceptions, I'm presented with a menu that asks if I'd like to "Autoprobe" or "Specify Options."
- If I choose Autoprobe and click Next, I'm given an error like,"loading module prism2_plx failed. Try again w/ other parameters?"
- If I choose no, I get Error X
My best guess from the posts I found searching on this subject is that I need to do some stuff at a command prompt (or included as custom parameters when I'm asked whether I want to "specify options"). I could just really use someone giving me a friendly walk-through of it (basically like I'm a 2-year old), preferrably in KDE.
I truly apologize for my ignorance on all of this. It's not a position I find myself comfortable in.
I appreciate any help. I'm going to now reboot into Linux and try to get more specific details, maybe re-edit my post with them. Thanks!
Craig
