Help for Linux Newbie, PCMCIA D-Link DWL-G650
Hi,
I'm a Linux total newbie, and I've just installed Mandriva PowerPack 10.1 . I'm trying to make my Wifi PCMCIA card work. It's a D-Link DWL-G650, Revision C2, Firmware 3.1.6 . I've tryed to install a program called madwifi, but what the manuals say is not what really happens (or more likely I made a mistake).
How can I install the card?
Thanks for your help!

Turbo G, does it work?
OK, but will it really work, because it says it's good for DWL-650+, which is 802.11b but DWL-G650 rev. C2 is 802.11g with Turbo G (108mbps). Will it work?
Thanks.

The Dlink DWL-G650 is available with two different chipsets(STUPIDLY with the same name), the Atheros AR5212 which works fine under Madwifi, and then there is the one with a prism54 chipset which if im not sure of, but it should work with the driver that comes with the kernel.. you have to somehow find out, mine dlink dwl g650 had an "atheros" mark on the box it was shipped in so i knew directly it wouid work with madwifi, so i just downloaded the madwifi cvs and did make; make install and it works very well and btw, dwl-650+ is not dwl-g650 and so on.. i have an dwl-g650+ which has an acx111 chipset, but thats another story. but i think the dwl-g650 card with atheros chipset is capable of doing 108mbps(i think the one with prism54 only did 54mbps, not quite sure) but i only got it to make 54mbps with the madwifi driver, so my tip for you is to first, download madwifi, and compile and install the driver as root, and then try if it works(it should do).. otherwise you have to tell us about your bad luck
