gnome network manager, atheros 5002g, madwifi, and WPA

I am using gnome network manager with my atheros 5002g wireless card.

I did this before and it worked great with wpa, but since i reinstalled fedora core 5 it doesn't work, every time i try to connect to my wireless network, it says that my card doesn't support the protection (WPA). Is this a problem with the driver I am using? The only difference between before and now is my repos and now i dont have kde installed.

ok, i have done some further testing, I have disabled all the encryption on my network. I installed madwifi from atrpms.

I think I have narrowed down my problem to gnome network manager. Without any protection, gnome network manager still won't connect. I can however, connect using system-config-network. So im thinking the problem must be with network manager. Has anyone else had this problem?
