First do iwconfig to see what it's called. Linux has all sorts of names for wireless cards like eth0, ath0, wlan0 - or if you have another network card it could be eth1 or ath1... Then you have to create the config files. For Knoppix 4.0.2 and a Belkin PCMCIA card, I added this line to /etc/resolv.conf (it might be in another directory):
Code:
nameserver 192.168.1.1
Which is the IP address of my router. Then I added to /etc/network/interfaces:
Code:
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.50
gateway 192.168.1.1
network 192.168.1.0
netmask 255.255.255.0
wireless_essid your-ssid-here
wireless_mode Managed
wireless_key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I think that was all. I don't have the actual files to look at, as I now use Ubuntu. I don't know how different it would be for Slackware or your wireless card. It's also possible that your wireless card doesn't work with Linux at all. I once had one with a chipset called the ACX100 that I never got to work, and Google said basically there was no support for it under Linux, so go get a different card. I finally switched it out with a Prism II that was on a Windows box.
