LinuxQuestions.org - Getting Linksys WUSB11 ver. 2.5 NIC to work in Suse 9.1 without building the kernel?

Hi,
I've had this problem every time I've used linux. I have a Linksys WUSB11 ver. 2.5 wireless network card. Everytime they update linux I've hoped that the card will be detected, drivers will be installed, other cool things happen and it will work.
Switching to Windows everytime I need to look something up, or post a question is aggravating, and what threw me away from linux every other time.
I've finally reached the point, however, where if I *have* to compile the kernel just to get it to work, I will. I've never done this before though, and I wouldn't be surprised if I screwed it up. And looking in the networking section of YAST, it seems like it has choices that correspond to what I know about my network card.
I've read that the 2.5 version of the card has a Prism chipset, and that I need the wlan drivers and all that. I've downloaded these a thousand times in the past, but I never knew enough to have any idea how to compile a kernel, so it didn't really help me.
Anyway, I'm starting to get the idea, and I'm reading up on it. After all, this time I'm serious about learning linux and tweaking the kernel is one of those things you need to know, right? I'm still hesitant to do this right at the moment, though, especially if I'm just missing something and with the proper clicks of the mouse Suse will do all the dirty work for me.
In the networking section of YAST, for the network devices configuration, I see "prism" scattered here and there, and I think the one I probably want is the one that says something like "...prismUsb..." at the bottem of the list in my computer.
Anyway, I just want to know, does anyone know if there's an easier way to do this, or do I have to delve into kernel building?
