Angry Getting DWL G650+ talking to DWL G520+

Both cards are D-Link and I originally had a working network between the two under Windows 2000. I have switched the laptop (G650+) to SuSE Linux 9.0 and am running the WinXP driver under ndiswrapper.

The desktop (G520+) is still running Win2000 and the setup is unchanged.

Both cards are set in Ad-Hoc on channel 6 (neither will actually move from channel 6 as far as I can tell!).

I have disabled WEP for the moment while I try and get it working.

When I run iwlist scanning I see the details from the other end fine, however it does show the G520+ as 802.11FH.

Running iwconfig shows the local G650+ configured the same, but claims it is only 802.11b (maybe this is a problem in iwconfig because it shows the tx rate as 54Mb which is 11g)

When I ping from Linux to Win I get no reply, but I can see the packets being received in the PC utility. The PC claims not to be transmitting any replies.

When I ping from Win to Linux I get no reply, but I can see the received packet count AND transmitted packet count going up by the same amount - so presumably Linux is replying! In this case the Windows PC also shows it is sending and receiving packets at the same rate.

Any ideas what is wrong or where to check next?

I am pretty new to Linux, but am otherwise pretty computer literate.

D'oh!

Mistyped the IP address as 192.168.1.3 rather than 192.168.1.2 which would be fine except that I am using a mask of 255.255.255.252 so .1.3 is invalid!!!

Now I can ping... but that's all I can do (sigh!)

Just curious as to what driver and kernel version you are using for the G650+.

As far as I know it uses the ACX 111 chipset from TI though have found no drivers as of yet.

Thanks,

The driver will be the ndiswrapper drivers. They provide a wrapper that let Windows networking drivers be used under Linux.

These drivers also work with the DWL-G520+. I set it up using the DWL-G650+ drivers from the web-site. The actual installation was straight forward. Finding the drivers was much harder than getting them to work.
